We're backing the FSB's campaign to 'Keep Trade Local'

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB)
has launched a campaign to 'Keep Trade Local' and Seaton Electronics
along with our electrical retailers association 'Retra' have added
their backing.

We're encouraging anyone who feels that the government should do
more to help local independent businesses to sign a simple online
petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/keeptradelocal/.

Some facts that the FSB have collected about the situation of the UK's independent retailers

  • 2000 local shops are closing every year
  • At the current rate, by 2015 there will be no more independent retailers in the UK
  • This amounts to the closure of over 50,000 businesses
  • The average person now travels 893 miles a year to shop for food

Independent retailers can provide a much better level of service than multiple could hope to achieve. The independent retailer tends to specialise in a product area and is then able to offer much more reliable advice than a multiple such as a web trader or a supermarket.
